The M25 model from Icom, is probably the most popular VHF radio for canoeists and kayakers. It is extremely lightweight (220g) and small in size, allowing it to fit into many popular buoyancy aid or lifejacket pockets- very important, as a VHF should be carried on the person, not stashed away inside the kayak. It also has a clip on the back, so it can be worn on the outside of a PFD if required.

A large, backlit LCD display screen is easy to view, and the simple, curved shaped buttons are well laid-out providing simple and straightforward operation, even with cold fingers. The Icom M25 is waterproof to 1 metre for 30 minutes, floats and has numerous flashing LED's for added visibility when it is dropped in water.

The M25 is charged via a USB connector, so can be charged through a variety electronic devices, including spare power banks. A really handy feature, especially on longer expeditions or when camping away from the national grid. Please note the IC-M25 accepts 5V/1A (Max.) input. With 11 hours of average battery life, and 550mW of volume, the M25 is used by and relied upon by many sea kayakers, touring paddlers and kayak anglers throughout UK waters.
