Safety and Rescue Equipment
Kayaking and Canoeing Safety Kit
All paddlers will have safety at mind when taking to the water. As a minimum, everyone should be wearing a well-fitted buoyancy aid or life jacket and be paddling within their limits given the conditions, location and experience of the group.
Most kayakers and canoeists will consider additional safety equipment as very important, and in some cases essential, for a journey. Some safety equipment will require specialist training before it can be used, eg. the use of throw lines in moving water, or completing a VHF operators licence. Other safety kit is more straightforward to use, such as a whistle or bilge pump.
