Nova Craft Bob Special 15

A classic tandem canoe constructed of lightweight materials

Nova Craft Bob Special is as true to the original Chestnut Canoe Company namesake, first designed, developed and manufactured way back in 1905! Nova Craft have created their own version of this popular classic, with minor tweaks to the design for better performance and also offer it in their lightweight material options (rather than the original cedar and canvas construction). The only major change from the original hull-shape is a fuller bow to provide a drier ride. Other than the bow, the hull stays true to the first design and is remarkably stable, thanks to the larger than normal width and shallow-arch hull.

The Nova Craft Bob Special has very little rocker, providing it with a good waterline length making it much faster than other 15ft canoes (eg a Prospector 15), and also it tracks very well in a straight line. The low draught on the Bob Special also means it performs well in a crosswind, compared to higher sided models. The Bob Special paddles very nicely by a solo paddler but can easily be paddled in tandem when required. For those that want to cover longer distances more efficiently, or carry plenty of kit a 16ft touring canoe such as the Nova Craft Pal 16 might be a better option. Equally the Bob Special is most at home on calm waters (as opposed to white-water), and is a delight to paddle on lakes, canals, lochs, meandering rivers and sheltered estuaries.
