When it comes to load carrying, the Prospector 17 is a true workhorse. Made famous for extended multiday trips in the Canadian Northern wilderness, it is equally at home being loaded up and used to explore the UK’s waterways. The Nova Craft Prospector 17 is a high-volume canoe, so it rides high up on the surface of the water to provide a dry ride, and the long waterline length helps it to track well in a straight line.

Thanks to it’s wide beam, the Prospector 17 is considered a very stable canoe and a perfect boat for heavier paddlers to feel at home and reassured. As with all Prospectors, the 17ft version has a moderate rocker, allowing for greater manoeuvrability and is considered to be a general-purpose, all-round canoe, suitable for use on most waters.

Although the SP3 Prospector 17 is supplied with 2x wood-web seats as standard, it has plenty of space and capacity to retrofit a third seat. Turning the Prospector 17 into a 3-person family canoe.

Made in the home of open boating, Nova Craft have been manufacturing high quality canoes for over 50 years and are world renowned for their quality designs and workmanship. We import Canadian manufactured Nova Craft Canoes Prospector 17 SP3’s directly into Manchester Canoes. For the strongest construction, Nova Craft uses SP3 plastic- manufactured by oven roto-moulding three layers of super linear polyethylene. The outer and inner layers are solid plastic, and the middle layer is a foam core. These canoes are extremely strong; amongst the strongest anywhere. Providing all-round paddlers with the perfect choice for moving water and general recreational use. The tough SP3 canoes are very popular with outdoor centres and rental operators due to their high levels of durability and superb construction.

Although these SP3 Prospectors are extremely strong and will likely give meany years of maintenance free canoeing, like all triple-layer canoes they are heavy. For some paddlers, the weight of a plastic canoe may be too much to lift and carry. With this in mind Nova Craft offer the hugely popular Prospector 17 in modern, lightweight materials.
