Mirage Drive Hobie Kayaks
Hobie Kayaks available in the North of the UK
Hobie Kayaks have decades of experience, leading the way in paddlesports development, and are considered by many to produce the highest quality, most innovative sit-on-top kayaks available. Utilising only the very best materials and components in their manufacturing, Hobie Kayaks also put huge emphasis on research and development to create technology that stands out from all others. Take for instance their patented Mirage Drive System, the most efficient and advanced pedal system on the market. Utilising the users strongest muscle group, the Mirage Drive is incredibly efficient, and the latest version includes 180 Reverse and Kick-Up Fins.
We aim to stock all of the latest models here at Manchester Canoes, and have access to all the Hobie accessories and equipment that might be required to upgrade your Hobie experience. One of the lightest Hobie Kayak models, with all the same features found on the heavier-weight counterparts. A dry ride is easily achieved by the raised seating system, whilst the hull is made from Hobie’s ACE-TEC construction.
The UK’s most popular Hobie fishing kayak, ideal for both use on both inland waters and coastal areas. Having undergone many updates over the years, the Outback still has all the top-end features most kayak anglers are looking for.
Hobie Kayaks decided to take much of their technology and offer it onto the simplified hull of the Compass. Manufactured from high-density plastic the hull is abrasion resistant and powered by the Mirage-Drive 180 with Kick-Up Fins.
Constructed from thermoformed plastic (as opposed to roto-moulded plastic) brings the overall cost down. This alternative hull material is lighter in weight than traditional polyethylene but will have less impact resistance and durability.
The more compact version of the Hobie Revolution 13, making it lighter in overall weight when handling off the water. On water the 11 is more manoeuvrable making it a popular choice for smaller or lighter paddlers.
The classic allrounder from Hobie Kayaks, for general purpose use including touring and kayak fishing. A fast sleek hull, merging stability, manoeuvrability, and forward speed to create a great combination for most situations.
The tandem edition of the popular solo Compass model. The hull-shape fits somewhere between the Rev 13 and the Pro Angler’s to provide a great all-round kayak, with plenty of stability and is also efficient when touring over longer distances
All the features and quality of the full Hobie Kayak range is also available in this two-person tandem version. The Oasis can also be paddled/pedalled by one person, whilst the other fishes, relaxes or takes in the scenic views.
Big on features, and fully dedicated for enthusiastic and professional kayak anglers alike. Although this is the smaller of the two Pro-Anglers, it is still a large fishing platform and crammed with well thought-out ideas.
The larger of the two Pro Angler kayaks, the 14ft model offers extra carrying capacity and space for those longer days on the water and when carrying extra equipment out onto the water.
Double the fun with the fully loaded Tandem Adventure Island from Hobie Kayaks. Developed from the sailing pedigree of Hobie Cat, if sailing your kayak and having epic adventures are high on your priority list then take a closer look.
A bomb proof hull with an excellent seat, the famous Mirage Drive system, rudder system, paddle, tackle box, paddle park and more. Hobie have though of everything and there is a vast range of accessories to meet every Hobie owners needs. You also buy a Hands Free capability that takes kayak fishing to the next level. Hobie kayaks are only fishing kayaks when you take your fishing gear with you otherwise they are simply cracking kayaks to pedal, paddle or even sail.
A brief description on how the Mirage Drive works:
You pedal. In a reciprocating not circular motion and this in turn drives two fins under the kayak. They look like Penguin fins, work like penguin fins only they alternate at 180 degrees from each other whereas the good old Penguin who Designed them through evolution use theirs simultaneously. Both fins drive the kayak on every stroke of the drive. The efficiency is unreal and you are using the biggest muscles in your body your legs. Way more efficient than the traditional method of kayak propulsion- arms and paddles.
Hobie Kayak Hulls:
Manufactured using roto-moulded technology and constructed from linear repairable polyethylene. Very well designed, strong and hydro dynamic in shape. No other kayak available that is this stable is this fast through the water.
Can you believe it the Hobie marketing man he says: Our molded-in cup holders bring beverage service to the main cabin. So after catching the fish of a lifetime or enjoying breathtaking scenery and feeling a fitness flowing through your body you can access the Beverage Service! God love the marketing cuckoo!
Using the Hobie Mirage Drive:
The Mirage Drive is simple to use, quiet and creates no splash, hassle free for a quiet ride. Ideal for not disturbing wildlife or fish whilst out on the water.
Leaves your hands free for angling, photography, filming or holding a drink.
Both feet sit comfortably on the pedals, for speedy, effortless, back-and-forth motions.
Much faster and more efficient than paddling. A similar position to recumbent cycling.
The strongest muscles in the human body (leg) produce more power rather than using your arms on a traditional paddled kayak.
Nothing in the way of water splashing or dripping from a paddle, a drier ride for the Hobie user.
