Nylon Spraydecks

The most popular type of spraydeck for recreational inland kayakers and novice sea kayakers are constructed from Nylon material, and sometimes called splash-decks. These spraydecks are the easiest style of spray deck to fit and remove. Perfect for keeping splashes, drips, small chop and the weather from entering the kayak. They are recommended for beginners to closed cockpit kayaking, and ideal for flat water paddling, both inland and sheltered coastal trips.

Neoprene Spraydecks

Spraydecks for white-water rivers, surf kayaking, and more serious sea kayaking are usually made from Neoprene material. This means they are less likely to implode in heavy water, and have less water ingress around the edges. Fitting Neoprene spraydecks takes some practice as they are much tighter than Nylon, and you will need to buy the correct size for your kayak’s existing cockpit. White-water Neoprene decks also have a Neoprene waist tube designed to fit snugly around the paddlers torso (again see the size charts), whereas touring/sea kayaking decks tend to have a more comfortable, universal, Nylon waist tube.
