For those looking to either replace or add woodwork into their canoe, we supply a wide range of wood products and fittings to suit most open canoes. These are supplied long, so that they can be cut to length by the customer to ensure a correct fit for their boat.
We also stock a range of stainless hardware, suitable for fitting canoe yokes, seats and thwarts into existing canoes. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding fit or suitability.
Oiled Regular Ash Yoke
Traditionally used for carrying open boats solo across the shoulders. Most modern canoe manufacturers fit a factory fit a yoke to improve hull rigidity and strength .These yokes are constructed from high quality ash and come supplied ready oiled and should be cut to length.(should fit all Canoes supplied from Manchester Canoes) You may require a Bolt Kit to attach the yoke, see hardware below.
Varnished Deluxe Yoke
Deluxe Yoke for more comfort on long portages due to it’s larger surface area. A High quality pre varnished ash yoke which is ergonomically sculpted to fit your shoulders comfortably. Supplied oversized and should be cut to length. (should fit all Canoes supplied from Manchester Canoes) You may require a Bolt Kit to attach the yoke, see hardware below.
Deluxe Cherry Yoke
A deluxe yoke made from a single piece of cherry wood. This beautiful yoke is more comfortable for long distance portages and constructed of cherry wood it is among the most resilient to rot of the hardwoods. Ergonomically sculpted to fit your shoulders comfortably and featuring a small notch cut for the back of your neck. Supplied uncut and you may require a Yoke Fitting Kit to attach the yoke, see hardware below.
Packable Fabric Yoke
A lightweight fabric yoke, perfect for lightweight solo canoes where a fixed yoke wouldn’t work. This yoke is designed to fasten around the canoe with clips and offer a comfortable padded yoke system to portage with. When out on the water it is quick and easy to unclip and stow into a drybag, barrel or just in the boat. No hardware required to instal, but only designed to accommodate lightweight composite canoes.
Yoke Pad
An ergonomically shaped pad which increases comfort when portaging the canoe. The Yoke Pad is a gel pad which attaches to a yoke (fits best onto a Deluxe yoke) via three Velcro straps. With a grippy base it holds itself in position even under undulating terrain, as such there is no need to remove it in-between portages. This can be used to increase the comfort on any canoe.
Swift Canoes Removeable Cherry Yoke
Designed to work with the hardware installed in the gunwales of Solo Swift Canoes this hardwood yoke is fully removable when not being used to carry. Solo canoes can offer some limitations to carrying long distance portages due to the seat position not allowing for a fixed yoke, this is designed to remove such boundaries. For those who want more security or are covering backcountry paths and require more than the fabric yoke this is a great option.
Oiled/Varnished Ash Thwart
Thwarts add rigidity to an open boat, and are also useful for carrying, loading and strapping in equipment. Some open boats come supplied with thwarts, others are added as optional extras or upgrades. To install the thwart, a thwart fitting kit maybe required listed below unless replacing an existing thwart and retaining the metal hardware. Supplied in either an Oiled or Varnished finish for your preferred finish to the woodwork in your canoe.
Oiled Ash Kneeling Thwart Kit
More advanced solo paddlers may wish to add a kneeling thwart. The addition of one will lower the centre of gravity, increasing stability and power through the stroke. These thwarts are supplied extra long so they can be cut to length, therefore able to fit the majority of open boats sold at Manchester Canoes.
Supplied as a full kit including bolts and hangers.
Cherry Thwart
A thwart supplied as an uncut length of cherry wood; this beautiful wooden accessory is an excellent upgrade over the more common ash counterpart. Or use as a replacement for any Swift Canoe. Supplied uncut and you may require a Thwart Fitting Kit to attach the thwart (unless retaining existing metal hardware), see bolts and fittings below.
Oiled Ash Canoe Handle
A replacement handle for your canoe, made from high quality ash and supplied oiled. The Handle is 255mm in length and will require cutting to size to fit your canoe. You will also require some fixings as below, unless you a reusing existing fittings from an old handle.
Oiled Cherry Handle
A replacement handle, perfect to replace any in a Swift Canoe or those who are outfitting a wooden canoe and want to use exceptional materials. These uncut handles are oiled and with an elliptical finish these are built to be as comfortable in your hand as possible. Coming as 255mm length you will require cutting to size to fit, additional bolts maybe required see below.
Canoe Outboard Motor Mount
A pre oiled ash canoe motor mount. Securing under your canoe gunnels by tightening the two wing nuts. Will fit most Canadian canoes but may require some trimming for a perfect fit. Length 830mm. Width 55mm. Block size: 135mm x 73mm x 55 mm
Thwart Fitting Bolts
A set of 2 stainless bolts. Suitable for fitting thwarts to canoe gunwales. Includes 2 X nuts, 2 X small washer, 2 X backing washers and 2 X plastic finishing washers.
The kit comes in 2 sizes 65mm fits most regular vinyl canoes gunwales. 70mm fits Enigma Canoes Prospector Sport, Tripper 14, Journey 164 and Square Stern 126.
Yoke Fitting Kit
A set of 4 stainless bolts. Suitable for fitting yokes to canoe gunwales. Includes 4 X nuts, 4 X small washer, 4 X penny washers and 4 X plastic finishing washers.
